Aquarium of the Lakes – Lakeside, Windermere


More than 30 spectacular, naturally-themed habitats bring the natural history of the Lake District vividly to life. Enjoy close encounters with hundreds of amazing creatures including trout, eels, pike, perch, giant crabs, rays and many more. A fun all weather attraction, you can also combine your day out with steam train trip, or cruise!


The Armitt Museum - Ambleside


The Armitt Museum is a unique place combining library and museum, scholarship and fun, art and entertainment. One of the UK’s rarest, small museums, the Armitt encapsulates all that is best about Lakeland and its people, and preserves that essence for future generations to enjoy. This is achieved by the generosity of countless benefactors and volunteers who together have created the building, collection and exhibitions. The Armitt has a superb collection of books and manuscripts, drawings and paintings, memorabilia and archaeological objects relating to an extraordinary gallery of famous Lake District characters.


The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction - Bowness-on-Windermere


Hop, skip and jump down the road to Bowness-on-Windermere and see Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck, Mrs. Tiggy-winkle and all their friends at the definitive Beatrix Potter Attraction in the English Lake District. From 27th – 30th December, you can join Peter Rabbit for a very special Christmas tea party!


Zeffirellis Cinema and Jazz Cafe Bar - Ambleside


Zeffirellis in Ambleside offers two separate cinema screens showing the films of the moment. There is also an excellent café, bar and restaurant on site, with live jazz. Sister company, Fellini’s, is located just minutes away and offers a further cinema screen, bar, restaurant and special events – such as live links to the Royal Opera House for ballets and operatic performances.


Blackwell Arts and Crafts House


One of the Lakes' hidden treasures, Blackwell Arts and Crafts House in Bowness-on-Windermere is a wonderful home built in 1900 by Mackay Hugh Bailie Scott as a holiday home for a wealthy businessman. There are little panelled nooks where visitors can sit and read, exquisite stained glass, carvings and metalwork, as well as lovely gardens. The shop sells a wide range of local craftmakers' work, from textiles to ceramics. It’s open every day until 31st December.
