The most exciting restaurants in the Lakes!

Jo Spencer - Wednesday, January 20, 2016

Whilst staying at one of the world’s most romantic hotels – the Cranleigh Boutique of course – you’ll want to visit some of the area’s best restaurants. We’ve got a vast array of superb restaurants in the Lake District – with the views to match! If you’d like to enjoy a romantic break with us over Valentine’s, check out some of these beautiful eateries to accompany your stay. You won’t be disappointed!

The Jumble Room, Grasmere:

Tucked away down a small road in the heart of Grasmere is one of the region’s most famous restaurants – The Jumble Room. It’s not on the main thoroughfare, yet diners seem to turn up at the door to enjoy the unique ambience and eclectic menu. Quirky and relaxed with friendly staff, it’s easy to while away the hours here tucking into their infamous fish and chips or coconut and red lentil dahl. It’s small, but perfectly formed. We’d recommend booking if you want to secure a seat at the table…

Hooked, Windermere:

Hooked Seafood Restaurant opened in Windermere in November 2010 with owner Michael Gould serving up the catch of the day. The menu changes daily depending on availability from local Fleetwood, so there’s never any knowing what you’ll get! But, whatever it is, you can rest assured it’s tasty and fresh, with flavours and influences from the Mediterranean, South East Asia and Australasia, courtesy of head chef, Paul White.

The Old Stamp House, Ambleside:

The historical Old Stamp House Restaurant is housed in the former work place of one of its most famous and treasured natives; William Wordsworth. Rapidly becoming one of the Lake District’s most refined restaurants, the Old Stamp House draws inspiration from the lesser known ports on the west coast of the county with their rich history of importing spices and alcohol used in many of the local speciality dishes. Their team use their local knowledge to collect and source wild herbs, mushrooms and game from the surrounding woodlands, forests, mountains and coastline. With a raft of awards under their belts, the Old Stamp House was listed in the top 100 restaurants in the UK at the National Restaurant Awards in 2015. Their head chef is also listed in Olive magazine’s 'Chefs who will define 2016'. Booking definitely advised!

Rogan and Company, Cartmel

The very talented Simon Rogan’s informal and relaxed bistro is excellent for either lunch or dinner. Located in a beautiful building in the charming village of Cartmel, great food and wine from around the world combine to make an unforgettable experience. Using the very finest ingredients, many from within Cumbria itself, Rogan’s is undoubtedly one of the Lake District’s most exciting restaurants.
