Great Britain named 5th top tourist destination in the world ahead of USA

A new report reveals the UK has beaten the States as we are named the fifth top tourist destination in the world.


The study by the World Economic Forum (WEF) shows that the UK has risen two places, but is still placed behind Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Spain for travel and tourism competitiveness.

 

What makes the UK such a popular holiday destination?


Over the last 2 years, The Royal Wedding of “Wills and Kate”, The Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympic Games were a huge draw to worldwide holiday makers.

 

The WEF report also points out our "excellent cultural resources”, referring to our many World Heritage sites, strong creative industries and the number of international fairs it hosts as major draws.

 

The UK’s secret attraction, The Lake District.


It’s been said many a time but the UK is home to one of the most stunning and romantic areas in the world, The Lake District. We like to think that we also play a part in why so many foreign travellers choose to holiday in the UK. We have everything from beautiful scenery to some of the best restaurants in the country and then of course The Lakes is the home to The Cranleigh, the number 1 most romantic place to stay in the UK, according to Trip Advisor.
